vKnova ("we", "us", "our") operates at vknova.in. This policy explains what data we collect when you use our platform, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By using vKnova you agree to this policy.
01 Information We Collect
Account Information
When you register, we collect your name, email address, username, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never store your plain-text password). For students enrolled through a school or coaching centre, your account may be created by an administrator.
Academic & Usage Data
As you use vKnova, we record the learning activity needed to power the platform:
- Topics attempted, questions answered, and answers submitted
- Mastery scores, accuracy, XP points, streaks, and badges earned
- Time spent per topic and session timestamps
- Class membership and assignment completion
Payment Information
Payments are processed by Razorpay. We receive a payment confirmation and your Razorpay transaction ID — we never store raw card numbers, UPI PINs, or bank account details on our servers.
Communication Data
If you submit our contact form or send us an email, we retain your name, email address, organisation details, and message content to respond to you and improve our service.
Technical Data
Our servers automatically log your IP address, browser type, and pages visited for security monitoring and debugging purposes. We do not run third-party analytics scripts (e.g. Google Analytics) on the platform itself.

03 Data Sharing
We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
🏫 Schools & Coaching Centres
If you are enrolled in an organisation on vKnova, that organisation's administrators can view your name, email, progress, and assignment results for the purposes of teaching and academic monitoring.
👨👩👧 Parents / Guardians
If a parent account is linked to a student account, the parent can view the student's progress dashboard, topic scores, and streak data.
🔧 Service Providers
We use a small number of trusted sub-processors: Resend (transactional email), Razorpay (payment processing), and Railway (cloud hosting). Each is bound by a data processing agreement.
⚖️ Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by applicable law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public.
05 Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. Specific retention windows:
- Account & academic data — retained while your account is active and for 2 years after account deletion, unless you request earlier erasure.
- Payment records — retained for 7 years to comply with Indian GST and accounting regulations.
- Audit logs — retained for a configurable period (default 90 days) as set by your organisation's administrator.
- Server access logs — retained for 30 days for security purposes.
06 Children's Privacy
vKnova is designed for students of all ages, including children under 13. Student accounts for minors are created and managed by a parent, guardian, or authorised school/coaching-centre administrator — not directly by the child.
If you believe a child has provided us personal information without proper consent, please contact us at hello@vknova.in and we will delete the information promptly.
07 Your Rights
Under applicable Indian law (IT Act 2000 and DPDP Act 2023) you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — request deletion of your account and associated data (subject to legal retention obligations).
- Portability — request an export of your academic data in a machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent — opt out of non-essential email communications at any time via Notification Preferences in your dashboard.

08 Security
We take the security of your data seriously and implement industry-standard safeguards:
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt with appropriate cost factors — never stored in plain text.
- Session cookies are HTTP-only and Secure, preventing JavaScript access.
- All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS/TLS.
- The database operates in WAL mode on Railway's private network — not publicly accessible.
- Admin actions are recorded in a tamper-evident audit log.
No system is 100% secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it responsibly to hello@vknova.in.
09 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify users via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of vKnova after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
